Independent testing and inspection company Alfred H Knight (AHK) has expanded its geochemistry capabilities in Zambia, strengthening access to mineral analysis for mining and exploration projects across the Copperbelt and beyond.
Based within AHK’s existing Kitwe facility, the laboratory introduces dedicated geochemical testing to the company’s established services in Zambia, supporting exploration and mining projects across the African continent.
For mining and exploration companies operating in Africa, accessing geochemical analysis can mean sending samples across international borders for testing. This can add logistical complexity and handling requirements, as well as additional costs and longer turnaround times, particularly for projects operating at scale or in remote locations.
The Kitwe geochemistry laboratory brings a variety of analytical capabilities closer to the source, giving clients a relevant regional option for geochemical testing and, where appropriate, reducing the logistical requirements associated with overseas sample movement.
The laboratory’s capabilities include sample preparation, multi-element analysis by ICP-OES, precious metals analysis by fire assay, acid-soluble copper and cobalt analysis, sulphur and carbon analysis, specific gravity determination and lithium analysis.
The Kitwe laboratory forms part of AHK’s wider network of laboratories and technical operations across Africa, complementing the company’s existing inspection, sampling and analytical services in the region.
